The President's Award for Youth Empowerment consists of two activities Adventurous Journey (all levels) and Residential Project (Gold Level only). Below you will find uBukwa's schedule and planning requirements for these activities.

Adventurous Journey

Participant Items: Sunblock / Sunhat / Sunglasses / Pillow Case only / Sleeping Bag / Spending money for tid bites / Toiletries / Tooth Brush / toothpaste / soap / bath scrubs  / Lotions / Hair Brush / lip ice / Small sweat towel or face towel for the hikes / Hiking boots or jogging takkies / flip flops / swimming costumes / Light Jacket (wind-breaker) / mosquito repellent / medication ( allergy and general meds) / ladies hairbands for jogging

Water: 5 Liter bottle water will be provided for refilling your water bottles.

Energade: Carry your monies and you can purchase on arrival day when we go shopping for our supplies. 

Mandatory Personal Water Bottle: Here you can buy a 'PUMP' water bottle in Ballito Spar and reuse if you prefer.

Clothing: Weather appropriate clothing.

We will provide: Towels / Pillows only with NO pillow covers) / Toilet Rolls / Duvets / Food ingredients as per meal plan / All cooking utensils including; Pots / Pans / Cutlery, etc

AJ 2025 v2

Accommodation and ingredients for meals only. It is the requirement of the TPA programme that the participants be self sufficient so the ingredients will be provided for all meals , which they will purchase as a team, and they will then cook the respective meals they agreed upon.

Sleeping arrangements will be on sleeping mats with sleeping bags and not beds as per AJ rules.

All participants must ensure that they are healthy and fit to undertake the AJ. Any disabilities and such must be noted to the Award Leader and further this MUST be specified on the Indemnity Form. Please ensure you complete the Indemnity Form timeously.

Stay over at Zimbali Coastal Resort / uBukwa Zimbali Guesthouse

Participants will travel to Zimbali based in Durban at their own accord. Airport transfers to Zimbali and Airport can be arranged. King Shaka International Airport is 12 minutes away from the location.

No Beef or Pork served. Special dietary requirements and allergies must be noted to the Award Leader.

Residential Project (Gold Participants ONLY)

2025: Tues, 8th July to Sat 12th July 2025

Location: Reddam House Waterfall, JHB

Total R5,900 for 5 days.

On Saturday, 29th June, the programme will start at 5am where participants will be preparing Chicken Breyani with Salads for 120  under-resourced families. The meals will be prepared, cooked and served by the participants under the guidance of the Award Leader. The cost of this food preparation is included in the costs.

The Residential Project will be a mixture of soft skills, practical learning, community outreach and guest speakers inline with topics covered by the programme.

No Stay over for this event. Participants travel daily to venue.
